Lady Gaga makes her long-awaited appearance as Harley Quinn. At the same time, Joaquin Phoenix reprises his Oscar-winning Joker in the first teaser for “Joker: Folie à Deux,” which was published on Tuesday.

The teaser trailer shows a plain-faced Arthur Fleck, Phoenix’s Joker, being accompanied through a facility where he’s being held.
His eyes meet Quinn’s while walking down the hallway as she stands in a room that could be called a choir room.
Later, Lady Gaga’s Quinn, while miming a gun to her head and about to pull the trigger, is heard saying, “I’m nobody.” She says, “I haven’t done anything with my life like you have.”
The video then shows scenes of the villainously in love couple waltzing around on the street, evading bombs, fleeing mobs, and kissing each other through Fleck’s jail cell, all set to a melancholy rendition of the classic hymn “What the World Needs Now is Love.”
Then, at a point, Fleck said, “I’ll tell you what’s changed,” and he confessed, “I’m not alone anymore.”
The Joker and Harley Quinn have always shared each other’s romantic interest in the DC comic book folklore, with Quinn first appearing as the villain’s therapist in Arkham Asylum.
Currently, we do not know the details on how filmmaker Todd Phillips will approach these legendary characters in his sequel, but based on how he handled the Joker in the successful 2019 film, it’s reasonable to assume “Folie” will be a departure from the comics.
Other stars in “Folie” also include Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson, and Zazie Beetz, who featured as Fleck’s neighbor Sophie.
The billion-dollar-grossing film “Joker” won two Oscars in 2020, including one for Phoenix as best actor.
On October 4, “Joker: Folie à Deux” will be in theaters.
